The United Die Company has been test drawing dies for many years. Our in-house drawing bench enables us to perform testing that eliminates most of the guess work that goes on in cold drawing. This testing has yielded a database of knowledge and we know for sure what our dies will produce . If you have a special shape or a product with a tight tolerance and want to be sure when you get our dies you will produce good metal. Send us some pointed incoming material and we will test draw it here at United Die first, making sure the proper size shape are present. This way when you receive the die with the drawn sample, you know it will work well for you right out of the box.
The United Die Company manufactures a vast array of tungsten carbide tools and dies. Although we have a lot of standard products that can be customized to your specifications, we also offer completely custom tooling based on your technical drawings. Tungsten Carbide Drawing Dies
The United Die Company produces tungsten carbide drawing dies that are placed in a steel casing which provide mechanical protection and facilitate die exchange. The geometry the drawing die are specific to the application and can involve standard shapes (round, square, rectangle, or hexagon) and intricate shapes based customer CAD drawings
Drawing dies are typically used in the drawing of wire, rod, bar, and tube. The materials that are drawn are typically copper alloys, aluminum alloys, and steel alloys.

Tungsten Carbide Shaving Dies
The United Die Company produces tungsten carbide shaving die inserts and holders. When the inserts are used in combination with UDICO holders, the result is superior tooling longevity. United Die has developed a family of shaving die inserts which can process a wide size range (0.223 to 1.750 inch diameter) with rake or face angles from 3 to 35 degrees. United Die holders have a proprietary lining which enables them to be in service for extended periods.
Shaving dies are typically used to remove surface defects that are introduced in the drawing process. The shaving process can be used on a variety of steel alloys (including stainless steels), copper alloys, and other materials.

Tungsten Carbide Extrusion Dies
The United Die Company has been making extrusion tooling for over half a century. We have manufactured extrusion and pointing dies, dummy blocks, die holders, mandrels, etc. Basically any kind of peripheral tooling you need for your extrusion operation. Extrusion dies are typically used in an extrusion process where a slug of material is pushed through the die giving it a cross-sectional area (based on the shape of the extrusion die). The extrusion process can be performed at various temperatures (specific to the material and desired mechanical properties) and used on a variety of materials including, steels, copper, aluminum, nickel, lead, and tin.

The United Die Company produces steel swaging dies also called pointing dies. These dies can have tungsten carbide inserts which significantly increase tool life. The swaging and pointing die configurations can be in 4 piece, 2 piece or single die assemblies based on customer supplied drawings or United Die Company designs which include custom shapes (e.g., hexagonal, square, etc.).
The United Die Company's swaging dies are typically used to point the ends of the material producing a taper to facilitate further processing. This process is commonly referred to as rotary swaging and it physically manipulates the end of the material so it is small enough to fit into the next operation which could be cold drawing or extruding.

United Die produces a complete line of sectional tooling from tungsten carbide side and end blocks, steel shims and backplates. We also design and manufacture complete die holder assemblies as well. We can manufacture these in on-center or off-center configurations to suit your drawing requirements. Like all of our dies these side and end blocks can be CVD coated to further increase the life of the tooling. Naturally we also provide a cost effective re-grinding program for your used blocks as well.
Sectional tooling is mainly used in the production of sharp cornered flats and squares. It is very simple and quick for die setters to move the end blocks to obtain new sizes while the side blocks remain in place.
